We're off on another action-packed, exciting adventure!
From February 9th to March 9th, we'll be traveling to Costa Rica, the "Rich Coast" but the locals call Costa Rica the land of "Pura Vida" the "pure life" where life is simple and is to be enjoyed. Perhaps this is why Costa Rica is considered one of the happiest places on the planet.
Costa Rica is a biodiverse jewel nestled in beautiful Central America.
Sandwiched between Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the south, Costa Rica is bordered by the Caribbean Sea to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west creating two completely different and beautiful coastlines.
During our month's excursion, we will be exploring this beautiful country, which is the most biodiverse in the world.
While about the size of West Virginia, Costa Rica contains 6 % of the world's biodiversity. (Biodiversity refers to all the variety of life that can be found on earth (plants, animals, fungi, microorganisms).
Costa Rica has the highest density of biodiversity of any country on earth.
There are at last count, 900 different bird species,
250 species of mammals
112 volcanoes, 5 of which are active
From beaches, volcanoes, tropical jungles, mountains, cloud forests, waterfalls, rainforests to name just a few, Costa Rica's environmental phenomena are just waiting for us!
We'll spend a few days exploring the capital city of San Juan before the start of the Intrepid Travel eco-tour.
This 15-day adventure will be a comprehensive journey into the jungle, farmlands, and beaches of this lush Central American country. A few of the numerous highlights will include a homestay with a local family on their sustainable farm; the active volcano La Fortuna and its hot springs; Manuel Antonio's National Park and then, of course, the palm treed beaches.
Following that 15 day experience, we'll be traveling on our own for the remaining two weeks, staying at the lovely Yiang Yiang Beach Resort and spa near Montezuma, where we'll enjoy the area's unspoiled Pacific Ocean beaches,
So far it's all in the planning stages but in a few days, we'll be leaving the grey skies of the Pacific Northwest behind us and heading into the brilliant sunshine of Costa Rica and their Pura Vida way of life!
We can hardly wait for the adventure to begin!
